Curling arenas in Bratislava have been closed since the start of Corona, already 3 years ago!
The ice arena was then reconverted for our local ice hockey teams, which were allowed to practice and train during the pandemic. However, demand for this unusual sport has remained high and we are glad to announce that after long discussions, we managed to get curling back in our catalogue.
For this special occasion, let’s remind the history and rules of this funny looking sport :
Curling is the perfect activity for team buildings and stag dos which are looking for fun, originality and friendly games between teams.
Rules of curling
Curling is a winter sport in which two teams slide stones across a sheet of ice towards a target area. The objective is to place the stones as close as possible to the center of the target, called the “house.” Points are scored for the stones closest to the center of the house. Teams use brooms to sweep the ice in front of the stone, which can influence its trajectory and speed.
History of curling
The sport has its origins in medieval Scotland, where games were played on frozen lakes using stones from nearby rivers. The modern version of the sport has evolved over the centuries, with standardized rules and equipment being established in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
